Decorative ORMOCER®-coatings

ORMOCER®: Tailor-made decorative coatings for gloss, matt finish and individual color variety

Optical adaptations expand the portfolio of properties of ORMOCER® coatings.

 

Specifically, decorative coatings are highly customisable colors or, depending on individual requirements, glossy or matt surfaces. The surface of the product can therefore be given a glossy or matt finish as required. ORMOCER® coatings generally have a glossy appearance, which results from a very smooth surface. The matting effect is achieved by adding special additives.

A surface can also be provided with a colored layer. Popular application examples for this are drinking glasses, household glasses, furniture glasses, aluminum surfaces and plastic covers. The different shades are obtained by individually mixing different base colors, which are added either in the form of dyes or pigments. In this way, almost any color can be achieved. In addition, both transparent colorations and opaque coatings can be created. Coloring with ORMOCER® coatings offers a cost-effective alternative to other coloring options, as the ORMOCER® color coating is only a few µm thick and therefore particularly economical in terms of material consumption.

Visual variety and additional functionalities of ORMOCER® decorative coatings

 

ORMOCER® decorative coatings mainly have optical properties, for example they can matt or color a product. In some cases, additional properties such as scratch resistance and/or high chemical resistance are required of the ORMOCER® decorative coating. This applies, for example, to drinking glasses that are to be cleaned in the dishwasher. A combination of several properties is therefore also possible.

Areas of application of the ORMOCER® Decorative coatings

Architecture and construction industry

ORMOCER® color coatings not only give glass surfaces (inside and outside) of buildings the finishing touch. Combined with scratch-resistant properties, the coated material also proves to be long-lastingly beautiful.

 

Automotive sector

Glass or metal surfaces colored with ORMOCER® can also be used in cars. The additional scratch resistance ensures a long-lasting visual effect, which can be set to either glossy or matt, depending on requirements.

Furniture and sanitary

Display case glass or mirrors look particularly attractive thanks to ORMOCER® coatings with a targeted coloration. Transparent colorations allow a good view into exhibition compartments and, in combination with the appropriate properties, keep scratches at bay.

In general, ORMOCER® decorative coatings offer optimum protection and aesthetic perfection for glass, aluminum and plastics. They not only provide an impressive appearance, but also outstanding scratch and chemical resistance, ideal for everyday glassware and stylish furniture. For plastics in particular, ORMOCER® compounds combine the hardness of a scratch-resistant coating with the flexibility of the material, setting new standards in material finishing.
